The history of New Zealand is a mixture of fact and fiction. Around the year 925 seafarer Kupe would have discovered New Zealand. Because of the low clouds he called the land Aotearoa. That means the land of the long white clouds. He looked and examined the land and after that he returned back to the Haiwaiki islands with intresting stories.  They also say that the Maori’s where the first inhabitans of New Zealand. Arriving on the islands around the year 1000. They were of the island for a while and returned in the year 1200. Because of that there was overpopulation and many diseases.
